snailgarden06SnailGarden is a local family business that deals with snail (Helix aspersa) breeding and trading.

The farm of the company is based one kilometre outside the town of Karditsa, Greece. The tunnel house and other auxiliary facilities are located in a four-acre field.

It is a unit that meets all the required functionality and snail welfare conditions, including a veterinary health approval number and a type approval and certification by the Control Centre of Agricultural Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.



snailgarden07The applied farming method is the "closed system", where snails live and reproduce in landscaped parks inside the tunnel house, under as much controlled temperature and humidity as possible, with the use of shade netting and sprinkler system.

The snails' feed consists mainly of ground cereal like corn and soybeans that contain vitamins and minerals needed for the proper growth of the snail, and also leafy vegetables like chard, cabbage etc.
